Baden-Württemberg at the South Pole: with innovativeness against climate change

The 8th resource efficiency and circular economy conference of Baden-Württemberg hosted polar explorer and environmentalist Robert Swan. The British researcher is planning an expedition to the South Pole by foot. With him: a flag from the state Baden-Württemberg.

The flag with the inscription: "In order to keep it cold on the South Pole - Ideas from Baden-Württemberg" is a symbol of the innovative power of Baden-Württemberg companies, said Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann when handing over the flag. Swan, one of the keynote speakers at yesterday's resource efficiency and circular economy conference in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, will take the flag from Baden-Württemberg and set it up for a short photo shoot at the South Pole. Since the explorer will leave nothing behind in the Antarctic, the flag then returns to Baden-Württemberg. "With your expeditions, you will demonstrate courage and determination," said Kretschmann. "They help to raise the awareness for climate change." Franz Untersteller, Minister of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector Baden-Württemberg, added: "The state of Baden-Württemberg can help with its initiatives and ideas to combat climate change. Our companies are heavily involved in environmental technology and with the Under2 Coalition initiated by Baden-Württemberg and California, we have created a global network for more climate protection at the regional level. Our common goal: to limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius."

To emphasize this ambitious endeavor, the flag says on its back: "Committed to stopping climate change"
