Baden-Württemberg is science location number one in Germany

In a nationwide competition, four of the eleven coveted titles of excellence went to universities in the German Southwest. The universities of Heidelberg, Constance and Tübingen as well as the KIT in Karlsruhe will be holding the prestigious title in the future.

"This is a great day. This makes Baden-Württemberg Germany's science location number one", said Science Minister Theresia Bauer. With four out of eleven universities of excellence throughout Germany, Baden-Württemberg is by far the most successful German state.

The universities of excellence Heidelberg, Constance, Tübingen and KIT Karlsruhe will receive annual funding of about 15 million euros per year from the Federal Government and the state of Baden-Württemberg. The funding will start on 1 November this year and will run for at least seven years. Subsequently, it will be reviewed whether the universities continue to fulfil the requirements for funding.
