"We are investing in the development of digital high performance networks and this way into the future of our economy and society. The broadband expansion is decisive for the success of the state digitalization strategy in total - and for the way Baden-Württemberg will hold its ground in the international location competition" according to Strobl.
"Small municipalities, interlocal alliances or entire rural districts are now reaching the construction phase and are realizing the optical fiber plannings on site. The handover of so many grants shows that the change in responsibility, namely from the ministry for rural areas and consumer protection to the Ministry for interior, digitalization and migration is taking place smoothly for the municipalities", according to the State Secretary from the Ministry for Agriculture, Friedlinde Gurr-Hirsch.
It was fixed in the coalition contract that the responsibility in the broadband expansion is to change the department and this has been realized since 1st October. The advantage of this is that the strategies for broadband expansion and for the digitalization in the state will develop homogeneously.
The Minister of Digitalization Thomas Strobl pointed out that the layout of the digital infrastructure is coordinated with local civil engineering works with every third application. "This shows how efficiently the municipalities operate with the state subsidies. The municipalities save up to 30 percent in the civil engineering investment if they combine the broadband expansion with other local construction measures", Strobl declared.
