L'Oréal builds environmentally friendly logistics center in Muggensturm

The cosmetics company L'Oréal will create a new distribution center with an area of more than 100,000 square meters in Muggensturm near Rastatt.

L'Oréal intends to use the convenient location directly on the A5 to supply the markets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Responsible for the construction of the CO2-neutral plant is the world's leading owner, operator and developer of logistics property Prologis.

The world's largest logistics center of L'Oréal

According to a company spokesman, the capacities of the existing warehouse in Karlsruhe are no longer sufficient to meet growing product demand. With the new building, LÓréal is clearly committed to Germany as a central location. In addition, the increased capacities ensure the opportunity for further growth.
According to the company, the new distribution center is to become the world's largest warehouse of the L'Oréal Group and thus enables an increase of the current capacity by 90 percent. All employees of the previous location in Karlsruhe will be working in the new logistics center.

Sustainability of the new logistics center

In addition, both the construction and the operation of the logistics center should be CO2-neutral. For this purpose, the logistics system will be equipped, among other things, with reinforced insulation and a 1.8 megawatt photovoltaic system. The electricity thus generated is fed into the network of a power company and bought back by the cosmetics group in the required extent.
In addition, L'Oréal wants to use green energy, e.g. from wind turbines, as well as rainwater for irrigation of green areas, hall cleaning and toilet flushing. A central building control system should make it possible to directly allocate the energy consumption in order to recognize potential savings.

Strengthened importance in the logistics industry

Prologis already owns a logistics property of 40,000 square meters in Muggensturm. "We are pleased to once again welcome Prologis as a partner in our community," said Muggensturm's Mayor Dietmar Späth. With the settlement of L'Oréal with a sustainable, CO2-neutral property, the municipality Muggensturm continues to gain economic importance for the logistics industry.
