Fraunhofer Gesellschaft joins Cyber Valley

In order to guarantee a better, faster and more efficient transfer of research insights, the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft is joining the research consortium Cyber Valley with the founding of a new AI innovation center. The new center is intended to provide medium-sized companies a central point of contact for applied research on artificial intelligence.

The new AI innovation center is to become a central point of contact for medium-sized companies within the Cyber Valley network. The initial team will be made up of 20 researchers. The AI innovation center will offer companies a wide range of services – for example „Open Lab Days“, where visitors can experience AI applications and exchange ideas with experts. Furthermore, „Quick Checks“ will be offered, where experts will examine whether and how a specific AI application can basically be implemented in a company.

"With our innovative approach, we are a nationwide pioneer and create a new AI contact point for small and medium-sized businesses in Baden-Württemberg. Artificial intelligence is a key driver of innovation and economic growth and holds enormous economic potential for our SMEs. We need more 'KI made in Baden-Württemberg' and we need to bring the results of our cutting-edge research even better and faster into practical application for our companies. To do so, we must massively advance the research, development and commercialization of AI," said Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Baden-Württemberg's Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing, at the opening of the new center.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft plan to invest a total of ten million euros in start-up financing in the lighthouse project by 2022. Cyber Valley is a research consortium consisting of the renowned universities of Tübingen and Stuttgart, the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems and some of the world's leading industrial companies, such as Daimler, Bosch and Amazon.
