Baden-Württemberg is strengthening its position as strongest German export state

According to the State Statistical Office, exports from rose by 1.1 percent. For the first time since 2015, the growth in exports in the country is again stronger than nationwide.

Companies from Baden-Württemberg exported goods worth 205.2 billion euros in 2019. Compared to the rest of Germany, the German Southwest continues to lead the way as the strongest exporting federal state. Southwest imports increased by 3.0 percent to 183.7 billion euros. Here the growth rate was more than twice as high as in entire Germany (+1.3%).

With an export value of 95.4 billion euros, the European Union (EU) remained the most important destination for exports from Baden-Württemberg, even after the withdrawal of Great Britain from the EU. As in previous years, the most important destination countries were the United States and China. Export business with neighbouring France (+4.6 %), the third most important destination for exports from the German Southwest, was well above average.
