11.08.2010 At the Rastatt workshop of Mercedes-Benz, Daimler is creaing around 400 additional jobs. An alignment to the following generation and high demand for the A and B Class are the main factors calling for greater personnel capacity. The factory management and the works committee have come to an agreement according to which the factory's core workforces will be increased by around 400 employees by the beginning of 2011, starting immediately.
The approximately 400 additional jobs and open-ended work contracts will be taken by part-time workers in the Rastatt facility and by employees who, up to now, have been employed with limited-period contracts at the Ludwigsfelde factory as well as employees from other factories who have voluntarily agreed to a transfer.
Works manager Peter Wesp: "We are happy that we can increase the number of employees at our facility. With the agreement, we are offering previously limited-period employees and part-time workers a long-term career perspective. The agreement is a clear commitment to Rastatt."
With the additional employees, more vehicles will be produced per shift in the second six months of 2010. Moreover, in the first half of 2011, the workshop will change over to three-shift operation with a six-day production cycle. The employees however will retain their individual five-day week.
It has also been agreed that young skilled employees from the hiring years 2006 and 2007 will be given open-ended work contracts.
Production:
Mercedes-Benz A and B Class
Competence in compact vehicles: In Rastatt, the A and B class, which were awarded the auto-environment certificate in 2007 by the well-known environment institute Öko-Trend, is built.
In 2009, Mercedes-Benz extended the Rastatt factory (new body construction hall) and therefore increased the associated investment of 600 million euros in its competence centre for compact vehicles, thus securing the Rastatt location over the long term..
By extending its range of products in the compact vehicle segment, Mercedes-Benz will offer four instead of two models in future in order to win over new customer groups and grow in additional markets. Three of the four models will be made in the Rastatt factory.
