Roche invests 86 million Swiss francs at its Mannheim location
Construction of a new production unit for Herceptin, the breast-cancer medicine

01.03.2010 Roche is investing 86 million Swiss francs (around 57.3 million euros) in the construction of a new pharmaceutical production unit in Mannheim. As of 2013,  Herceptin (active agent: trastuzumab), a breast-cancer medicine for a new form of therapy, will be produced and packaged there.

Thomas Schmid, spokesperson for the management of Roche Diagnostics GmbH, explained the situation as follows: "With this new form of therapy, we are enabling a highly promising new approach to the medical treatment of cancer patients. The Roche facility in Mannheim has a wide range of expertise in the production of sterile medicines. The decision made by the management of the Swiss company in favour of Mannheim as the new location to supply the market shows the corporation's trust in the competence of Roche Diagnostics GmbH in this area of activity."
