MVV Energie to rely on renewable energies and energy-related services
New strategic alignment maps out course up to 2020/ Mannheim energy company to invest Euro 3 billion/ Stability and profitability as the "supplier of the future"

22.12.2009 Mannheim. With its new strategic alignment, the MVV Energie Group aims to face growing challenges in the energy market and to exploit its internal growth potential. "By ensuring stability and profitability, even in difficult economic times, we intend to become the supplier of the future and to secure our position as one of Germany¿s leading energy companies in ten years¿ time as well", stressed Dr. Georg Müller, CEO of MVV Energie, when presenting the results of the five-month strategy project "MVV 2020" in Mannheim on Monday. To this end, the Group intends to invest three billion euros in its growth and in its existing business by 2020. "We see our own future in expanding renewable energies and energy-related services," added Dr. Müller.

Alongside investments in renewable energy generation, the targeted expansion of the energy-related services business field represents a second focus. "Energy efficiency is one of the key topics for the future, especially for industry", explained Dr. Müller, "and this is an area where we have the necessary competence and experience to offer economical solutions". The same applies to further investments in environmentally-friendly cogeneration, both by completing the new block at the power plant Grosskraftwerk Mannheim, and by expanding and further concentrating the district heating supply in Mannheim, Kiel and Offenbach.

MVV Energie also intends to generate further growth with its nationwide sale of electricity and gas to industrial customers. By offering innovative and intelligent products, such as its successful electricity and gas funds, the company also aims to broaden and reinforce its already strong market position.

"Our broadly-differentiated business portfolio provides us with numerous options and opportunities to grow", emphasised the CEO. This meant the company could be selective and focus consistently on its target of achieving profitable growth.

Dr. Müller sees further optimisation across all divisions as the foundation and prerequisite for this growth strategy. "Successful companies have to be better than their competitors. That is our benchmark." Particularly in difficult times, such as the current economic crisis, this created the foundation necessary for stability and development potential.

The company CEO underlined that MVV Energie would remain a fully integrated energy company also covering the whole value chain in future and that it would thus not be discontinuing individual core divisions. With its strategic longterm realignment, the Group is also aiming not only to make existing jobs fit for the future, but also to create new jobs by investing in growth, thus compensating for personnel changes in other divisions. "Together with our municipal partners, we are thus acting with confidence to shape our own future", remarked Dr. Müller.

The Group, which is publicly listed in the SDAX index, currently has around 5,900 employees in Germany and the Czech Republic and generates annual sales of around three billion euros.
