18.12.2009 In Australia, Bilfinger Berger will build an additional section of the Hume Highway which connects Sydney and Melbourne. The project has a volume of €110 million and comprises the construction of a nine-kilometer long, four-lane bypass around the city of Woomargama. Bilfinger Berger has already expanded large stretches of the Hume Highway in recent years and is also responsible for the long-term maintenance of individual sections.

In 2009, a number of transport infrastructure projects in Australia were given a boost by the government's economic stimulus programs. Bilfinger Berger Australia also stands to profit from these developments: civil engineering orders received grew by more than 60 percent to €1.5 billion in the first ten months of the year.

In Poland, the Company will build the nine-kilometer long southern section of the Danzig ring road. The new motorway will provide the city center with relief from a substantial amount of through traffic and offer a direct connection between the harbour and the motorway network. The project includes the construction of a 300-meter long cable-stayed bridge. Bilfinger Berger has also won an order to build an eleven-kilometer long section of motorway near Bialystok on Poland's eastern border. In Warsaw, the Company is responsible for delivering a two-kilometer long rail tunnel to the capital's international airport. These projects have a total volume of €210 million.

In Poland, public-sector investments in the modernization of transport infrastructure are receiving massive support from the European Union's structural fund. Between 2007 and 2013, a total of €67 billion in subsidies will be pumped into the country.
