High employee potential in IT/telecommunications due to excellent higher education network.

• At the nine universities and 23 higher education establishments in the state, approximately 7% of students pursue IT courses. This places Baden-Württemberg above the German average.

• In comparison with the whole of Germany, around 17% of students in IT courses graduate in Baden-Württemberg.

• Baden-Württemberg has an excellent higher education network. The universities of Karlsruhe and Ulm, alongside the specialist universities of Karlsruhe, Mannheim and the higher education establishment for media in Stuttgart, are the top-ranked group in the field of IT in Germany.

• The major efforts made by the state in the various branches of IT/telecoms technology are underlined by special facilities at the universities and higher education establishments. The University of Ulm alone, for instance, has ten institutes in the area of IT plus the “Perception and Interactive Technologies” (PIT) centre of excellence. At the University of Stuttgart, a total of 23 renowned institutes are available to students in the field of electrical engineering and information technology.
