High employee potential for the creative industries due to excellent higher education network.

  • In terms of higher education, Baden-Württemberg is well provided for in the various areas of the creative industry, offering a breadth and depth of courses unrivalled by any other German state in terms of its contemporary resonance and diversity.

  • In the film and media sector, for example, the internationally renowned Film Academy of Baden-Württemberg is established in Ludwigsburg, offering a sound, broad-based education for careers in the film industry. The Film Academy with its practical and project-related courses is regarded as the best higher education establishment for film-making in Germany.

  • The Pop Academy Baden-Württemberg founded in Mannheim in 2003 has already received high national as well as international acclaim in its short life, the courses on offer being unique in the German-speaking world. Based on the template provided by the Film Academy, it offers a practical course of study for the various professions within the music sector.

  • The Academy for the Performing Arts in Ludwigsburg provides Baden-Württemberg with a higher educational establishment for the performing arts which is unique in Germany. Students in the fields of acting, drama, theatre direction and dramaturgy as well as other related courses are educated together for careers in the theatre and film.

  • The Specialist Higher Education Establishment for Media Studies (HdM) in Stuttgart is the only higher education establishment in Europe to cover all areas of media in its courses. Students can choose from a total of 14 different courses of study in the three faculties: print and media, electronic media and information, and communication.

  • In a German national creative ranking, five out of the best ten facilities (academies, higher education establishments specialising in the arts and film, universities, other specialist higher education establishments and private institutions) are in Baden-Württemberg.

  • At the nine universities and 23 specialist higher education establishments in the state, one fifth of students in total pursue courses of study related to the creative industries.
