In Baden-Württemberg a multitude of co-operation projects and initiatives which cross company and institution boundaries generate new market potential and competitive advantage for businesses based here.

In Baden-Württemberg four strong core regions for logistics have developed. In the north-west of Baden-Württemberg there is the Rhine-Neckar region with its centre in Mannheim/Ludwigshafen and the cities of Heidelberg and Karlsruhe, in the centre of the state the Stuttgart/Heilbronn region and in the south-west the Freiburg-Lörrach region. And eastern Baden-Württemberg has the up-and-coming logistics region of Ulm.

In addition to the core regions, five network/collaboration projects have developed in Baden-Württemberg which support the logistics sector in the state.

The scientific company “wissenschaftlische Gesellschaft Technische Logistik e.V.” (WGTL) in Stuttgart aims to provide scientific backing for the logistics sector to boost technical innovation in the sector with co-operative research and development. The scientific work is carried out in close collaboration with universities and research facilities in the whole of Germany.

In the joint project AUTLOG, scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute for Information and Data Processing (IITB) in Karlsruhe are developing and testing the linking of automation and logistics systems jointly with industrial and research partners.

The co-operation centre Logistik E.V. (KLOK) in Kornwestheim specialises in transport logistics. In close co-operation with the towns of Kornwestheim, Ludwigsburg and the Stuttgart region, representatives of interested parties in the logistics sector and the University of Stuttgart, the centre supports logistics companies with information relevant to the sector, amongst other services.

The “Intralogistik-Netzwerk in Baden-Württemberg e.V.” supports and promotes businesses in the state with an emphasis on intralogistics. The work of the network includes the active exchange of information, joint research projects and a trainee programme across companies.
