The logistics sector in Baden-Württemberg is supported by a high-performance, multi-faceted research network.

• In the area of logistics, Baden-Württemberg‟s higher education establishments are extremely successful not only in teaching but also in research and development.

• 30 institutes/centres and university departments are located in the state. They study current issues in the area of logistics ,as well as intralogistics, and work on solutions to meet the challenges of the future.

• In addition to the major research facility at the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT), there are six Fraunhofer Institutes in Baden-Württemberg which focustheir research work on logistics, amongst other areas, such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology and Automation (IPA) in Stuttgart. At the Karlsruhe Research Centre for Information Technology (FZI) the LSE department researches, develops and advises on ISPE for reliable logistics systems.
