Environmental technology in Germany

At the nine universities and 23 higher education establishments in the region, around a quarter of the students enrol in courses of study connected with environmental technology. This places Baden-Württemberg above the average in Germany and makes a large pool of highly qualified specialists available to firms based here.

Measured against the whole of Germany, around 17% of students graduate with the emphasis in their studies on environmental technology and related subjects.

The outstanding significance and high ranking of environmental technology is underlined by the special courses offered by the universities in the region. Particularly notable are the WASTE courses - Air Quality Control, Solid Waste and WasteWater Process Engineering, ENWAT - Environment Water and WAREM - Water Resource Engineering and Management at the University of Stuttgart. At the University of Hohenheim (Stuttgart) there is a course in Environmental Science – Soil, Water and Biodiversity and at the University of Tubingen AEG – Applied Environmental Geoscience. At the University of Karlsruhe there is a special course in Utilities and Waste – Sustainable Processing. In addition almost all higher education institutions in the south-west offer a wide range of courses in disciplines relevant to environmental technology.
