Environmental technology in Germany

• At the nine universities and 23 higher education establishments in the region, around a quarter of the students enrol in courses of study connected with environmental technology. This places Baden-Württemberg above the average in Germany and makes a large pool of highly qualified specialists available to firms based here.

• Measured against the whole of Germany, around 17% of students graduate with the emphasis in their studies on environmental technology and related subjects.

• The outstanding significance and high ranking of environmental technology is underlined by the special courses offered by the universities in the region. Particularly notable are the WASTE courses - Air Quality Control, Solid Waste and WasteWater Process Engineering, ENWAT - Environment Water and WAREM - Water Resource Engineering and Management at the University of Stuttgart. At the University of Hohenheim (Stuttgart) there is a course in Environmental Science – Soil, Water and Biodiversity and at the University of Tubingen AEG – Applied Environmental Geoscience. At the University of Karlsruhe there is a special course in Utilities and Waste – Sustainable Processing. In addition almost all higher education institutions in the south-west offer a wide range of courses in disciplines relevant to environmental technology.
