A multitude of active cooperation projects between companies and institutions in the renewable energy sector stimulate innovation, consolidate synergies and create new market potentials for the companies in Baden-Württemberg.

• Baden-Württemberg has a network of highly active networks and specialist organisations in the various fields of renewable energy.

• Baden-Württemberg has seven energy agencies spread across the whole federal state, which promote efficient use of energy and resources and the use of renewable energy through their independent advice to households, authorities and companies.

• The Greater Stuttgart area with its local networks is a centre of excellence for the whole of Germany in the disciplines of energy efficiency and sustainable mobility.

• The “solar region” of Freiburg has achieved a leading position as a centre of excellence for solar energy. The “green city” of Freiburg boasts a unique constellation of politics and citizen initiatives, science, education and creativity in the field of sustainable energy management which is not seen anywhere else in the world.

• In addition to the lighthouse project in Freiburg, further examples show that Baden-Württemberg is a highly attractive location for renewable energy and enjoys a high level of cooperation between politics, companies and science. For example, the energy community of Freiamt in the Black Forest, with its approximately 4300 inhabitants, is a model community for renewable energy. More than 120 photovoltaic installations, 250 solar thermal collectors, numerous wood chip or wood pellet fuelled heating systems, three hydropower plants and four wind power plants generate more than 14 million kWh of power. This extraordinary statistic means that the community generates 3 million kWh of power more than inhabitants and industry of Freiamt use in total.
