Renewable energy in Germany

  • Germany offers attractive and stable framework conditions for renewable energy companies. As a result, “environmentally- friendly” technologies in Germany have come to play a significant role in the economy in recent years with high annual growth rates. The sector turnover has increased by more than 180% since 2003 and now stands at around 28,8 thousand million euros.

  • The German renewable energy sector comprises more than 16,000 companies, which employ almost a quarter of a million staff.

  • Germany is a world leader particularly in the fields of photovoltaics and wind energy. Indeed, no other country in the world generates as much energy from wind as Germany. Germany is also a world leader in the use of solar energy in terms of production and annual construction.

  • Many innovative German companies become international leaders in technology for key components of hydropower, solar and wind power as well as geothermal and biomass energy.

  • When compared at international level, “Made in Germany“ renewables lead the world and are thus used on an international scale.

  • The “environmentally-friendly” and attractive climate for companies in Germany is clear from the share of renewable energy in total end-use energy consumption as this share continues to increase significantly. The proportion of renewables in the energy mix has increased to almost 10% over the last four years and it is set to continue growing significantly.
