• The worldwide success of the products developed and manufactured under the “Made in Baden-Württemberg” label and the high level of dynamic innovation of the mechanical engineering sector in Baden-Württemberg are based upon the above-average efforts in research and development, among other factors. More is spent on R&D in mechanical engineering and invested in R&D staff in Baden-Württemberg than in any other German state. Companies based in Baden-Württemberg account for around a third of total expenditure on R&D in Germany well as 32% of total R&D staff.
