Mechanical engineering in Baden-Württemberg
Baden-Württemberg is one of the leading mechanical engineering centres in Germany.

  • Baden-Württemberg is a worldwide centre for mechanical engineering and plant manufacturing. Such a great concentration of the sector‟s companies, suppliers and clients as well as research and training establishments is not found in any other region of the world.

  • In south-west Germany, mechanical engineering companies achieve a turnover of almost 60 billion Euros and thus account for more than a quarter of the total turnover for this sector in Germany.

  • More than 296,000 staff are employed in this sector, which means that every fifth person in the manufacturing industry in Baden- Württemberg is employed in this sector.

  • More than a third of the 30 largest mechanical engineering companies in Germany come from Baden-Württemberg alone, meaning that this state lies ahead of all other federal states. Besides the sector giants such as Robert Bosch GmBH, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, Voith AG, Tognum AG, TRUMPF GmBH + Co. KG and Schuler AG, a large number of small and medium-sized mechanical engineering companies that are extremely successful at worldwide level have their head office in Baden-Württemberg.

  • A total of around 6100 companies are represented in Baden- Württemberg, which corresponds to around a third of all German mechanical engineering and plant manufacturing companies.

  • Baden-Württemberg mechanical engineering companies specialise in machinery with cutting-edge technology. No other federal state brings as many competences in the field of machine tools together in one location as here in Baden- Württemberg. Industrial production is no longer possible today without machine tools and precision equipment. Machine tools currently account for almost a third of the world market for production engineering. Machine tool construction provides impetus and is thus an important partner for other areas of mechanical engineering as well as further sectors such as automotive, electrical and aerospace industries.
