TIn Baden-Württemberg there are competency networks with a strong focus on control engineering, as well as a substantial number of major networks in the automotive sector, mechanical engineering, renewable energy, medical and biotechnology.

Stuttgart has set up the joint project EnAS “Energy self-sufficient actuators and sensors” which in co-operation with enterprises and research facilities develops various innovative energy self- sufficient components and systems for factory automation.

Göppingen is the location of the state-wide Mechatronik BW co- operation network which supports control engineering enterprises around the subject area of mechatronics through the actuators and sensors sectors. The network supports over 80 enterprises, universities, research facilities and institutions in the areas of qualification, strategic business development, energy efficiency, standardisation, technology transfer and the use of new tools in the product creation process amongst others.

In total around eight control engineering competency networks are represented in Baden-Württemberg, supporting enterprises in the sector in collaborative projects and in strengthening competitive capacity.
