• The sites for the chemical industry of Nordrhein- Westfalen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hessen and Baden- Württemberg are the top regions for the German chemical industry.

• Baden-Württemberg’s chemical industry generates a turnover of 17,8 billion Euro and provides more than 57,000 jobs.

• The chemical industry in the German Southwest is mainly dominated by small- and medium-sized companies. Around 90% of the companies have less than 500 employees.

• The very high share of small- and medium-sized enterprises in Baden-Württemberg ensures a high grade of flexibility with regard to the allocation of customised chemicals for special applications.

• Baden-Württemberg’s chemical industry structure is very multifaceted: one main emphasis – according to the number of employees – lies in the production of pharmaceutical products (around 37%). Equally important with a share of around 11 % is the sector “varnish, paint, building protective agents” as well as the sector “personal hygiene, detergents” with an around 10 % share.

• With its high concentration of pharmaceutical companies and service-providers Baden-Württemberg offers outstanding local sales potential for chemical products. More than one third of the chemical companies in Baden-Württemberg are concentrated in the sector manufacturing pharmaceutical products.

• Companies in Baden-Württemberg benefit from outstanding site conditions and an environment which is experienced in and friendly towards the chemical industry.
