The biotech sector in Baden-Württemberg is supported by a high-performance, multi-faceted research network
At eight universities, nine specialist higher education establishments and 16 non-university research centres, scientists carry out biotech research at the highest level. These include internationally renowned facilities such as the German Cancer Research Centre and the European Laboratory for Molecular Biology in Heidelberg, as well as the Max-Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in Tübingen.
Due to its outstanding research infrastructure, renowned medical and technical faculties, a multitude of major clinics and its proximity to numerous medical technology and pharmaceuticals companies, Baden-Württemberg offers an outstanding location for biotech companies.
Baden-Württemberg‟s infrastructure is one of the best in Europe. This is underpinned by a multitude of technology parks. There are bioparks in Freiburg, Heidelberg, Reutlingen/Tübingen, Esslingen and Ulm.
