High employee potential in biotechnology due to excellent higher education establishments

At the nine universities and 23 higher education establishments in the state, approximately one third of students follow courses related to biotechnology. This places Baden-Württemberg above the German average.

Baden-Württemberg has an excellent range of higher education establishments. At a total of eight universities in the south-west there are special facilities and centres which have specialised particularly in various biotech disciplines in both teaching and research. These include the Institute for Microsystem Technology (IMTEK) at the University of Freiburg, the Institute for Pharmacy and Molecular Biotechnology (IPMB) at the University of Heidelberg, the Institute for Biological Engineering and the Biotechnology of Sewerage at the University of Karlsruhe, the Centre Systems Biology (CSB) at the University of Stuttgart, the Life Science Center at the University of Hohenheim and the Centre for Bioinformatics Tübingen (ZBIT) at the University of Tübingen.
