Bosch builds research centre in Renningen
Bosch wants to invest around 160 million euros in order to concentrate its basic research activities at a single location.

30.10.3009 Böblingen – In an initial phase of this project, Bosch wants to invest around 160 million euros in order to concentrate its basic research activities at a single location. Initially, 1,500 employees are to engage in research in the centre for advance development on the edge of the former military airfield.

The military site in Malmsheim, a part of Renningen, is an ideal location for the high-tech developers of Bosch: an attractive protected position at the edge of a forest but right in the middle of the Stuttgart region and almost in sight of the Porsche development centre in Weissach and the Daimler research centre in Mittelpfad, Sindelfingen. And it is only a few kilometres away from the Bosch facilities on the Schillerhöhe in Gerlingen, in Schwieberdingen and another new development centre in Abstatt.

In the planned "advance and basic research" centre in Malmsheim, Bosch intends to concentrate 1,500 jobs, with additional staff from other locations in Europe. The centre will not so much concern itself with details such as the latest diesel injection pump but will focus on large issues of importance to the company relating to mobility in the future.
What is striking about the compromise that has been arrived at is that, although Bosch wants to build the centre as quickly as possible, things will not initially change very much for the glider pilots, Mercedes test drivers on the concrete track and military parachutists in Malmsheim. In the beginning, Bosch only needs the army's warehouse which is situated at the edge of the forest in the northern part of the 100 hectare site.

Up to now, it has been used for leisure activities, testing purposes and military exercises. Soon, however, the airfield in Malmsheim will be home to the researchers from Bosch. factum/Archiv
