Porsche builds new paintshop facility for 200 million euros

Stuttgart – Porsche, the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer, wants to build a new paintshop facility on the site of its headquarters in Stuttgart for 200 million euros. This was announced by Porsche in Stuttgart on Tuesday. The new facility is to be erected on the former site of a neighbouring company, Dürr AG, in the Zuffenhausen district of Stuttgart. The site was purchased by Porsche in Spring this year. Construction work is due to commence in Autumn 2008 while start-up is envisaged for 2011. The facility would be able to paint 170 vehicles a day, operating in two shifts, explained Porsche and was designed in such a way that three-shift operation would also be possible.

Porsche boss, Wendelin Wiedeking, said that the decision would not only help the company to keep pace with growth but would also implement an important component of the agreement reached in July 2005 between the Managing Board and the employees' committee in July to secure jobs at the Zuffenhausen location. He went on to say that the preconditions for production of the 911 in Stuttgart in future would also be created
