Baden-Württemberg is one of the leading locations for production technology with many companies of the industry situated here. Mechanical and Plant Engineering are core industries, but linked industries like electronics/electrical engineering, automation, information technology and photonics/optics are represented in the region as well.
Industry concentration
In Baden-Württemberg many prominent companies are situated. The region is one of the most attractive locations in the world for companies of the automation sector: market leaders like Pepperl + Fuchs GmbH, FESTO AG or Sick AG come from Baden-Württemberg, leading companies from abroad like FANUC or Comau have already settled in the region. For a reason: production is represented above-average, thus offering a great sales potential. Additionally there are many specialised study courses at the local universities as well as an outstanding infrastructure for research and technology transfer.
Labor force potential
The production technology companies in Baden-Württemberg have a large supply of qualified workers available. Resident industrial process technology companies employ more than 50% of all employees in the production sector work in this area. The concentration of engineers, scientists and technicians is among the hightest in all of Europe: Every 12th employee has had a technical education. Baden-Württemberg offers education targeted for industrial production technology, such as at FH Karlsruhe, University of Stuttgart and FH Offenburg. Almost every third student is enrolled in business or engineering at a university or university of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg, added to by the ones enrolled in mathematics, information science or physics. Of the new training contracts, more than 55 % are in the areas of industry and commerce, a large share of them as industrial or tool mechanics.
