Effects of the Eastern Enlargement of the EU on growth and employment in Germany

The results of a study with the topic "Effects of the " have been presented to the public in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology yesterday. A survey of the development achieved until now and an assessment of the coming development has been carried out with special consideration of the joinings of Bulgaria and Romania. The study concludes that Germany has profited economically from the enlargement of the EU in Middle and Eastern Europe. According to the study the joinings of Bulgaria and Romania on January 1st 2007 will have slight positive effects on the overall German economy as well. The positive effect of the fifth enlargement round ending with the joinings of the two countries mentioned will be approx. 1% of the GDP, states the study.
